Entry for 28 July 2007 - Den Of Iniquity

We had some friends round for dinner last night. A great night was had by all and Mrs P did a huge dinner of Chicken Fajitas (or Fat Ritas, as I call them). It turns out that it's Tom's fave scran so a bit of a result. As is now the norm, we all retired to the games room for lots of bevvy and a few games of pool. I was shocking at pool and didn't win one game. Gaz was the least drunk and won most games. Bugger! Isn't it odd how 7 or 8 hours spent in good company can seem like 15 minutes?

So anyway, in conversation, Mrs P dropped in the phrase "Den of iniquity". What a brilliant phrase I thought. To me it just conjures up visions of foxes in their underground house, huddled around a table, playing poker, getting pished and smoking a few joints, while Vickie Vixen in the corner slowly peels off the fox fur. Then again, it's not just animals that a den can refer to. Why do you think the most depraved members of society once belonged to the Cub Scouts? Yes, a den is also a unit of 8-10 cub scouts. So, think about that, the next time you plan to send the kids of to camp. Either don't do it, or make sure they have plenty of money to lose at cards, headache tablets for the inevitable hangover and plenty of snacks for when they get the post joint munchies.
