Liberals are the REAL Nazis

Part I: The Progressive Roots of Fascism

In recent years, it has become common for liberals to smear Republicans as Nazis. We've seen the picket signs depicting President Bush as Hitler. However, fascism was hardly a right-wing movement. In fact, it had a lot more in common with left-wing socialism.

Fascism's foundation came from the 1920s Progressive movement in America. Up until World War II, progressives proudly identified themselves as fascists and praised dictators such as Mussolini. Some argued that we Americans should follow their example. TIME Magazine even named Hitler as "Man of the Year" in 1938. Why? Because he had very liberal policies such as universal healthcare, environmental regulation, nationalization of banks, etc.

H.G. Wells, one of the greatest influences on the progressive mind (and, as it turns out, the inspiration for Aldous Huxley's Brave New World), told young Oxford liberals in July 1932, "Progressives must become 'liberal fascists' and 'enlightened Nazis'". Wells didn't coin the phrase as an indictment, but as a badge of honor.

This is why today's fake liberals call themselves "liberal". They hijacked the word after "progressive" was tainted with Hitler, eugenics, population control, socialism, etc. Today's progressives who masquerade as liberals may rant against fascism, yet it is their views and policies that paved the way for its rise.

Part II: Adolf Hitler's Socialist Views and Beliefs

Here are some quotes by Adolf Hitler:

"We are socialists. We are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions."

"The state should retain supervision and each property owner should consider himself appointed by the state. It is his duty not to use his property against the interests of others among his own people. This is the crucial matter. The Third Reich will always retain its right to control the owners of property."

"The Nazi credo that the individual belongs to the state also applies to business. Some businesses have been confiscated outright, on other what amounts to a capital tax has been levied. Profits have been strictly controlled. Some idea of the increasing Governmental control and interference in business could be deduced from the fact that 80% of all building and 50% of all industrial orders in Germany originated last year with the Government. Hard-pressed for food- stuffs as well as funds, the Nazi regime has taken over large estates and in many instances collectivized agriculture, a procedure fundamentally similar to Russian Communism." Part III: The Similarities Between Socialism and Fascism

Where socialism sought totalitarian control of a society’s economy through direct state operation over the means of production, fascism sought that control indirectly, through domination of nominally private owners. Where socialism nationalized property explicitly, fascism did so implicitly by requiring owners to use their property in the "national interest"— that is, as the autocratic authority conceived it. Where socialism abolished all market relations outright, fascism left the appearance of market relations while planning all economic activities. Where socialism abolished money and prices, fascism controlled the monetary system, setting all prices and wages politically. In doing all this, fascism denatured the marketplace. Entrepreneurship was abolished. State ministries, rather than consumers, determined what was produced and under what conditions.

Are modern progressives economic liberals? No. Economic freedom goes hand and hand with individual freedom. Mao, Stalin, Lenin, Mussolini and Hitler were against "classical liberalism" (modern conservatism or libertarianism). Private property under fascism, like pure socialism, is controlled by the state for the "greater" or "public" good. It is simply done so by proxy rather than direct ownership.
