Groups to protest Georgia immigration Bill

A number of groups are planning to descend on the Georgia capitol
building in Atlanta to protest a tough immigration law currently
being considered by legislators.

House Bill 87 would require employers in the Peach State to use the
federal E-Verify system to check the work eligibility of employees and
also allow law enforcement officials to check the immigration status of
people in some circumstances, according to CNN.

The bill is being protested by Georgia Immigrant and Refugee Rights
Coalition (GLAHR) and the Georgia Association of Latino Elected
Officials (GALEO).

"Thousands of Georgia immigrants and allies are coming together to
say no more to racial profiling and no more to the dangerous and unfair
targeting of immigrant communities and communities of color," GLAHR
director Adelina Nicholls told the news source.

GLAHR president Teodoro Maus told 11 Alive, an NBC affiliate, that
the bill was morally wrong.

"You lose all civil rights, all human rights, all constitutional
rights. Everything goes out the window," he said. "Human beings are not
illegal."

The bill has already been passed by the Georgia House and is
currently being considered by the state senate.
