Well guys apparently tomorrow I am going to go have my ears examined. That’s how bad and how pitchy the performances were tonight.
The main point of a song is picking a key and sticking in it. People with really good musical ears (like this blogger) will be able to hear if you are not in a key at all. Please take a note of that Casey Abrams, Ashthon Jones, Paul McDonald, Hayley Reinhart, Jacob Lusk, Thia Megia, Naima Adedapo, and Stefano Langone.
A personal problem I have is when one these idol hopefuls does a song by one of my favorite artists. I still and won’t ever forgive Blake Lewis for absolutely butchering my all-time favorite Bon Jovi song (You Give Love a Bad Name). So when Casey decided to butcher “With a Little Help from My Friends” by The Beatles (yes the Beatles did the original NOT Joe Cocker) my respect for him went out the window. While I am not saying he won’t be eliminated this week I hope he will not win this competition.
Of course there were some that did stand out. Lauren Alaina kicked off the night with a wonderful rendition of “Any Man of Mine”. And while the judges didn’t like it, I thought it was simple and it showed her range and the kind of singer she can become. James Durbin did a version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Wings that shocked even me. He kept it simple and unlike wanna be rockers on the show (Adam Lambert that’s YOU) he didn’t have to shriek or scream. Pia Toscano did “All By Myself”. Unlike some of her counterparts she found a key and stayed in it. And finally Scotty boy- he did shockingly well- plus now I can relate to the many people who saw the great Johnny Cash in person because I felt like I was at a Johnny Cash concert.
Now of course the judges- what were they hearing that I wasn’t. Almost all of the performances that were pitchy they thought were good. Steven and Jlo come close and listen to me- IT’S OK TO TELL SOMEONE THEY STINK!!!!!!! And Randy- I won’t keep repeating myself but call your buddy Simon and ask him how to be mean. And if any of you can’t do that then call me because I unlike you know music talent!!!!
My bottom three is going to be Ashthon Jones, Paul McDonald, and Stefano Langone. What is the common theme of the three? Robbie Rosen was and is better than all of them. He must be doing cartwheels somewhere because he can kick these guys’ butts any given day of the week. But then again I didn’t chose these top 13 so America go ahead and choose wrong like always.
12 more weeks- hopefully my ears will survive…..
